Tetsu Taiko
Tetsu Taiko is the first organized taiko group in Richmond and the second youth taiko group in the Lower Mainland. Formed in December of 2000 at the Steveston Buddhist Temple, they have grown from a young children’s drumming group to an exciting independent taiko group. Tetsu Taiko strives to promote Japanese culture through taiko drumming and feature traditional North American and Japanese taiko pieces. The group enjoys working on collaborations with other artists and have done performances with other taiko groups, Afro Cuban drummers, Chinese dancers, Bollywood Dancers, professional ice skaters, and even break dancers.
Highlight performances of Tetsu Taiko include – Kamloops Canada Day Festival, Opening of the Richmond Olympic Oval, Olympic Torch Relay, BC Lions Halftime Show, Steveston World Cup Soccer Festival, Powell Street Festival, and many more! Additionally, the group also organizes the “Nothing But Love For Japan” Taiko Earthquake Benefit shows.
